In c. 122, the Roman emperor Hadrian declared that a wall should be built "to separate the Romans from the Barbarians", and so it was. Hadrian's Wall ran for 73 miles, from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend-on-Tyne. Today, many of the ruins of the wall, and some of the military forts built up along it, can still be seen.....
